>> SAFE SPACE - Migrations through texts and images" is a place for encounters, listening and dialogue.

The sessions will be held on two consecutive Saturdays per month (February, March and April) around film screenings and performed readings with the aim of constituting a space for collective reflection on issues related to migration, racism and colonialism.

>> Why now?

We are currently witnessing the rise of organised racism in Tunisia.

The humiliation, violence and discrimination experienced by many Tunisians and non-Tunisians during their migration experience remains invisible.

Events organised on migration issues, very often take place in the absence of migrants.

The subject of migration, as it is posed in public, is often reduced to a problem to be managed in relation to security concerns.

Public authorities ignore social movements and demands related to migration. They have also put an end to any dialogue with migrantion associations.

Faced with this situation, we feel the need to create a space where people from all over the world can exchange, without constraint, on issues related to migration, in total independence from political interests.

>> Who are we?

Safe Space is a collective and militant approach. It is run by a small group of people of different ages and countries, students and workers, all living in Tunisia.

>> In what language?

Everyone is free to express themselves in their own language, we will help each other throug translation, but French, being the most shared language among us, will be the main language of conversations.

>> About session 1: Circulation and safe places

Saturday 11 February - Screening-debate: Lieux saints by Jean-Marie Teno

In this first encounter, which coincides with Youth Day in Cameroon, we will screen the film "Holy Places" (2009, 70 min) by Cameroonian filmmaker Jean-Marie Teno, who will be virtually present for the debate.

About the film: Through the portrait of 3 men: Julius Caesar, the artist craftsman who makes and plays the djembe, Bouba, the owner of the video club who distributes DVDs of undetermined origin and Abbo who writes on the walls, "Lieux Saints", shot in Ouagadougou, raises the question of access to culture in a working class neighbourhood. This documentary invites us to reflect on the obstacles to the circulation of films (art, knowledge, etc.) in Africa and on the importance of places where social links are built and which can function as "safe spaces".

Saturday 18 February - Reading-debate: "Tunisia: safe space?

This session will be divided into two parts. The first part will be about getting to know each other through theatrical games, and about circulating the word on what a "safe space" is, on the exchanges and the space that we would like to build through these encounters.

The second part will be dedicated to a question that we will debate: "Tunisia: safe space? We will start with readings (extracts from archives, manifestos of social movements, philosophy, literature, etc.) before holding a free discussion with the participants.
